Electronic Industry

This industry produces computers, computer-related products, communications equipment as well as a wide range of goods used for both commercial and military purposes.

Medical Industry

This sector is extremely important since it has an extraordinary impact on the health and quality of life. It occupies an important place in the economy of Puerto Rico, contributing with 10.8% (11,600) of total employment in the manufacturing sector (107,800) in fiscal year 2007.

 

Metal Industry

Have entered the era of sophisticated technology, this technology has improved both product quality and worker productivity. Competition has resulted in increasing specialization of production, as many producers have captured different niches in the market and specialized quality certifications.

Apparel Industry

This industry comprises various industrial groups engaged in two distinctive manufacturing processes: cut and sew and the manufacture of garments in establishments that first knit fabric and then cut and sew the fabric. It includes more than 80 plants contributing with over 10,000 direct jobs.

Sun-tan Industry

Both Spanish and English are the official languages, the local currency is the U.S. dollar, and no visas or passports are required to enter Puerto Rico from the United States. Mail is sent through the US Postal Service at the same rates as on the mainland.

PTAC Mission

Our mission is to support Puerto Rican Companies interested in doing business with the federal government by:

  • Providing businesses with an understanding of the requirements of government contracting and the marketing know-how they need to obtain and successfully perform Federal Government contracts.
  • Supporting Federal Government Agencies in reaching and working with the suppliers they need.

Our purpose is to provide specialized and professional assistance to individuals and businesses seeking to sell, or currently selling, their goods or services to the Department of Defense, other federal agencies, state, local governments and prime contractors. This specialized and professional assistance may consist of, but is not limited to, bid match service, outreach, training, and counseling services.

PTAC Goal

The Center’s goal is to generate employment and improve the general economy of Puerto Rico by assisting business firms to obtain and perform under federal state, and municipal government contracts.

PTAC Funding

The Puerto Rico PTAC, which serves as a Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), is funded in part through a cooperative agreement from the Department of Defense (DOD) through a program that is administered by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The content of any written materials or verbal communications of the PTAC does not necessarily reflect the official views of or imply endorsement by DOD or DLA.

Having an established business, email access, a presence in Puerto Rico, and an interest in the government market are the only criteria for participating in the program.
