This industry produces computers, computer-related products, communications equipment as well as a wide range of goods used for both commercial and military purposes.

Medical Industry

This sector is extremely important since it has an extraordinary impact on the health and quality of life. It occupies an important place in the economy of Puerto Rico, contributing with 10.8% (11,600) of total employment in the manufacturing sector (107,800) in fiscal year 2007.

 

Metal Industry

Have entered the era of sophisticated technology, this technology has improved both product quality and worker productivity. Competition has resulted in increasing specialization of production, as many producers have captured different niches in the market and specialized quality certifications.

Apparel Industry

This industry comprises various industrial groups engaged in two distinctive manufacturing processes: cut and sew and the manufacture of garments in establishments that first knit fabric and then cut and sew the fabric. It includes more than 80 plants contributing with over 10,000 direct jobs.

Sun-tan Industry

Both Spanish and English are the official languages, the local currency is the U.S. dollar, and no visas or passports are required to enter Puerto Rico from the United States. Mail is sent through the US Postal Service at the same rates as on the mainland.

2010 GSA Caribbean Training Conference

This conference will forge a stronger partnership between GSA and its customers and vendors located in Puerto Rico.

The conference is FREE to all government attendees.  A nominal fee will be charged to vendors.

Commercial partners and customers will receive the necessary training in order to increase the usage and sales of GSA business portfolios. Customers will attend important training sessions on:

  • GSA eTools;
  • Green Solutions;
  • Fleet Management;
  • Product and Service Solutions;
  • Telecom;
  • Technology Solutions; and
  • Building Solutions. 

This conference will also support the local community as the GSA team will meet with local vendors and provide important information on how to apply to become a GSA Schedule Vendor. The GSA staff will market the numerous advantages the Schedules program offers including a nationwide customer base, a CSD marketing network and the vendor’s visibility in e-tools programs. Their participation in the schedules program will eventually bolster their sales.  Customers and vendors will have the opportunity to network at this event by meeting with the GSA experts.

Vendors who are currently on GSA Schedule and who wish to obtain a GSA Schedule can benefit from attending this event too.  There will be discussion on:

  • The process of getting on GSA's Schedules;
  • How to access government solicitations;
  • The most significant sections of an offer;
  • How to submit an offer; and
  • The evaluation and award process.
